Rise and Fall

The bigger-headed they are, the farther they fall.

Scholars, I’m told, believe that the story of creation in Genesis 1 was written later, much later, than the story of fall in chapters 2 and 3. Maybe so, but that is not the order we have these stories in; and we have them as chapters of one story.  So, the fall has to come, doesn’t it, if the “rise” so full of arrogance?  For it is not God that writes Genesis 1; we do. It is we that judge humankind, ourselves, to be the crown of the creation with dominion over all, the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, all the domestic and all the wild animals of the earth. Let us tell the story, and we are not merely the champions of the world; we own the franchise.
