The
Parable of the Poisonous Snakes
Back from where I’ve been, I go to
church by myself: Uncle Albert is indisposed by the time change; besides, he
needs to rest for the Arsenal-Watford match.
I continue to hear the stories from Scripture as parables. For aren’t
they all about “the kingdom of God,” what God is going to do when God gets
around to doing it, sometimes now, sometimes later, sometimes already? Don’t
they all begin as Jesus’ parables do, “The kingdom of God - isn’t like this?”?
In today’s lesson, straight from the New Revised Standard Version,* it’s
